Newsham Park Hospital - Merseyside

Opened in 1874 as an Orphanage, housing up to 320 children, which later increased to over 1000 during the First World War. It later closed down in 1949 due to financial difficulties. It re-opened its doors in 1954 as a Hospital until 1988 where it stopped taking in patients. Due to the closure of Rainhill Lunatic Asylum in 1992, Newsham was forced to take in the inmates until it finally closed its doors for good in 1997.
